Roof antenna

Has anyone connected the chicken wire roof antenna to a modern radio ?
Any special methods?
If it doesn't work what about a modern antenna under a running board?
I'm definitely not putting it on the rear bumper with a foxtail!!!!

In response to your first question, I have used a roof "chicken wire" as an antenna with a modern radio with no problems. The second question regarding a modern antenna under a running board, I have one on my '35. From my experience it works well with FM but not so good with AM. Evidently, area AM stations seem to like a vertical antenna somewhat better.

Thanks tom did you solder the centre antenna wire to the chook wire? I thought the chicken wire would be grounded to the body or have i got it wrong?

I also run original mesh aerial with modern radio, no worries. The mesh is not grounded to the body, you are correct, solder the centre wire to the mesh, the outer sheathing is grounded onto pillar behind dashboard.
