Help installing rebuilt engine I am finally about ready to install the engine in my 28 Tudor. It has the multi disc clutch. Would it be easier to install the transmission to the engine and install together or bolt the transmission in the car a then install the engine. If I didn't have a m d clutch I don't think it would matter. Thanks for your advice

I prefer tranny in, then the engine by it self with clutch bell housing etc. But it will vary.

Re: Help installing rebuilt engine Thanks Gary. I wasn't sure how difficult it would be to align the splines on the multi disc with the transmission already installed.

Re: Help installing rebuilt engine I had to install an engine in a 28 Special Coupe at a body shop. Someone had pushed the clutch pedal with the engine removed, so the discs were out of alignment. I had someone push the clutch pedal while I pushed two round shaft screwdrivers into the notches to line up the plates. They released the pedal as I held the plates in alignment, then the flywheel slid in just fine.
The added weight of the engine knocked the hood out of alignment, so I told the shop owner to tie down the front and back of the frame and jack it up by the rear motor mounts. I didn't see how they fixed the hood gap, but it was straight the next morning. |
