Tire pump restoration
 

I have a couple of air pumps that need restoration, but they are mostly nice to start with, even with good wood handles and rods.... what I need is really the hose with the tire fitting or valve and the clips to tighten the hose to the pump and valve, and also the leather seal, but the vendors I see online have a full kit for around $25 that includes the wooden handle, rod and nuts and bolts, which I would prefer not to change.

Would anybody know of a source for the parts I need?

Bratton`s sell the the hose #22720 and the end and clamps #22730, the leather cup is another story. if I remember right I bought some of them from Gary Johnson

I bought a leather cup from my local Ace Hardware store about 15 years ago.

As Vince said A&L is the place to buy the parts.

I bought the leather cup at a local hardware store. They had about a half dozen sizes.

I have a bunch of old tirepumps, Ford and non, needing new leathers...after a LOT of searching using various different terms I found this place:

I have not actually ordered from them, as I am still cataloging the various sizes I need, but they sound good. My searching failed entirely to turn up any organized USA source except for the Ford and Jeep resto places selling kits with more parts than I want.
I think we are down to random finds in the few remaining old hardware stores here!

I am much more of an internet guy than phone guy (and I am mexican, so my english is not as good as to make myself understood easily), so though I tried to look for A&L and not finding but their phone, looked at Bratton's, as per JW Jash's reccomendation.

I am glad I did. Their page is not the easiest to navigate through (I don't like that it shows only 10 selections per page which makes it rather tiresome to go through it), but after spending much more than a few minutes on it, I find they have a tremendous inventory of parts, many of them of the individual parts to correct something, and not the full part of full repair kit. I liked that a lot.

Anyhow, thanks a lot! I will see about getting the parts and see if I can have the leather cups cut here to match my samples.

WELL, I cheated & bought a Model A lookin' bicycle tire pump @ Harbor Freight, for $9.99, even has a pressure gauge on the side & snap on hose connector, so's you don't lose ALL yo' air, when you disconnect! I'll probably have to HIRE some fool to pump it fer me! Any takers?

Like Tom W and Redbird I found leather cup washers just perfect for my Model A tire pumps,at a local Hardware store.They were in a drawer in a metal cabinet near the plumbing supplies,faucet washers, etc.

Isn’t there a check valve somewhere in the pump ? I don’t see any references to a check valve, so wonder how the pump can work.

I recently made one for a cistern pump using a similar method and a piece of leather from an old boot.
