Do we have animals that do this ? Tried to clean out a 28 LHD tank today.
Lots of rust flakes and remnants of material and about 50 ACORN shells. I know of watching disneyland tv many years go, squirrels hide away acorns ..... But here in OZ, I have never heard of it . Does this mean , my tank is full of USA acorns ? I wonder if customs check inside model A tanks on entry ...... And can a squirrel get inside a Model A tank neck carrying an acorn ? |

Re: Do we have animals that do this ? I purchased a 1950's Batwing Cadillac air cleaner from OR way and when I unwrapped it discovered it was half full of walnut shells or similar.
Some critter had stashed them away for winter... Had a hell of a time cleaning it all out. |
Re: Do we have animals that do this ? fiftyv8, there ya go , they are walnut shells, upon your post, I googled walnut shells , and that is exactly what they look like .
What critter secrets these inside a model A tank ? Never seen this before over here. Bit like explaining stepping on a red belly black to a kiwi. |
Re: Do we have animals that do this ? Pulverized walnut shells can be used for blasting.

Re: Do we have animals that do this ? I have found acorns inside cylinders of engines that only had the spark plug removed. They can get into the darndest places.

Re: Do we have animals that do this ? I think it's mice doing it. Don't leave a radiator out in the barn without sealing the openings,either-you will find it full of whatever a mouse can find to store.

Re: Do we have animals that do this ? My 57 merc had a couple of cup full of sunflower seeds in the cooling system. Was a bugger to get them all out. Also had pecans in a flathead block.

Re: Do we have animals that do this ? I stored my '30 cabriolet in my dad's garage in Big Bear Lake while I was in the army for 3 years. Tried to open the rumble seat but i was stuffed with dog food by a pack rat. Took out a 20 gal. trash can full through the front seat before I could open it. Found the rat living in a bare block next to the car so sent him to rat heaven.

Re: Do we have animals that do this ? Dennis bought a Model A WITHOUT a radumator cap, the COMPLETE cooling system was FULL of COTTON!
A friend stored his Jaguar XKE & later, it wouldn't start, the EXHAUST system was packed FULL of MAIZE! Bill W. |

Re: Do we have animals that do this ? I've seen full grown fox squirrels run throw chain link fence at full speed.

The top tank looked like something was stuff inside it. The guy at the shop calls me and tells me that the top and bottom tanks are stuffed near full of cotton. Critters you just got to love them, NOT!!! |
Re: Do we have animals that do this ? my problem is mice and corn from a nearby field. once blew a whole family out of a caddy exhaust. a useful tool to remove mouse packing. is to take a section of garden hose and tape it to your shop vac hose. it will clog at the end but you use it as a grabber. stick it in pull out a chunk over and over again.

Re: Do we have animals that do this ? when we pulled my aa out of the weeds there was a mouse nest in one of the cyl, they can squeeze thru the valve opening relatively easily. Also for whatever reason someone left the clutch inspection cover off. Found every hickory nut in 40acers in there!.

Re: Do we have animals that do this ? and squirrels make a great stew .....

Re: Do we have animals that do this ? and great "wings"

Re: Do we have animals that do this ? I also have a kubota tractor and twice now over a couple of years I have started it and blown a small live bat out of the vertical exhaust pipe.
They weren't alive for long, covered in soot lying on the ground about 10 feet away. |
Re: Do we have animals that do this ? Be happy that you do not live in the South West where they have pack rats. They will pack everything with jumping choia segments along with everything else Really fun to get out and the rats like to chew through fuel lines and wiring. They really like motor homes for their second residence.
