Original electrical Model A Ford wire flag terminals...

OK, I know better...this goes in the Swap section but this is for those who do not frequent the swap section...

I am in need of some original electrical wire flag terminals to complete my wiring harness for my 1928 Model A Ford. If anyone has some that you may have kept which came off old harness or their connectors such as light switch, coils, cutouts, terminal boxes...please email me at [email protected].

Also looking for a matched pair of original light conduits for the two-wire headlight system (1928).

Thanks.

I posted a request for original wire terminals off discarded wire harnesses a few years ago, but got no response. I've even been looking for a supplier of new terminals that look the same, but can't find any.

Tom,

And you would think that with all these old parts around, that they are still around...problem is that people don't think about the use of these and just go the reproduction route, which by the way are not made correctly in the first place. One would think that if they can stamp out something as simple as a flag terminal that is not correct...they could go the extra mike and stamp out one that is correct.

Tom,

Sacramento Vintage Ford makes the flag terminals that look almost exactly like the originals. They are not in their catalog, you have to call and kind of insist.

When I did the nearly fine-point Tudor's wiring, I acquired a small baggy of them from Sac Vintage for a few bucks. The only difference I see between them and the originals is the material thickness. Undetectable once installed.

I have saved a few ends. But have not made a count of how many I need. Will try to look later today to see how many I have. Rod

How many are on an original harness? I have several old harnesses in the boxes that came with my car and was going to use the repo one to get my car going, then make up a harness from scratch with the original ford tags as a make work project next winter, but if I have extras, I'll send them your way.

I'm going to go out on a limb and think they would be similar to the late T harnesses - have you tried calling someone like Don Lang (Lang's old car parts) to see what he has around for junk harnesses you could buy? I know Don is a bit of an old Yankee and he does sell used stuff too...

Restoration Supply has some listed on page 5 of their catalog (some are NOS):

I recently rebuilt a distributor using the famous repop multi-strand pigtail wire provided by the parts houses, only to have the flag terminal break when I bent it away from the upper plate.

Fortunately, I had an old wire from which I could salvage the original terminal. It worked wonderfully!

Those 100 wire flag terminals are junk. I always end up replacing them

These are what they look like from a picture from Marco. There was a company that seemed to sell ones that looked real close but I cannot find it now. There was also a post from Tom with a jig that he used to open the old flags with little damage.

No, the original terminals had a two part wire wrap, so one would wrap around the insulation and the other would wrap around the bare wire and get soldered, like Marco's picture that Mike posted. Sure seems strange that they are so hard to find. I'd also like to find some wide terminals like the generator brushes used.

Here's a picture of a simple jig I made to help me rescue terminals from a junkyard car. I cut off original terminals from 1950 Studebaker in the junk yard, but would do the same from a junk Model A harness.

You could also try Rhode Island wiring service and Nargasett? wiring services. They may have the right parts

X2. All their ring and spade connectors are identified as solder and crimp electro tinned. Heres their link. Tim

Here is a comparison of the original v rhode island wiring. Other than the gauge of the wire, gauge of the loom, different terminals .....

Pluck..

You are a man of means. You have a great business. Now, go buy a small press. Pay someone to make dies that would positively duplicate the original parts, and make some! Not only for yourself but all of us! And then some..

I just checked out "Restoration Supply Company's" web-site. They have NOS electrical connectors on page 5. May be what you're looking for.
