Washington Blue and Black fenders, what do you think?

What is you opinion of black fenders on a 1936 Ford Roadster with Washington Blue as the body color?

I think it would look lousy.

Personal choices aside, multi-color cars were frequent in those days. Had a '32 Plymouth with 1000 original miles on it at my 1955 purchase. Original paint out of the factory .... Black fenders and running boards, black cloth top, dark blue body with yellow factory pin stripping, yellow wire wheels. A smart-looking car that appeared in local and regional publications.

For what it is worth I think 34 was the last year Ford offered vehicles with black
fenders and a choice of different body colors. But if you're not doing a 36 for
show and aren't the least bit worried about point deduction, then go for it. One
of my deceased mother in law's favorite expressions always was "what you like
is best."

Looks like something an Undertaker with a flair for color would drive.

I thnk its your car, your choice and would be proud to see it on the road no matter what colors.

But since YOU asked for opinions, I think the car would look a lot nicer with more class with body color fenders and black running boards.

In a word: No.

Nice body style. Too nice to make it appear as a taxi. Yech...

Re: Washington Blue and Black fenders, what do you think?

Oh no!
It's too small a car to be two-tone.
Will look like a frustrated street rod of the 1980's.
Paint it all one color.

You own it, and the only one that has to look at it every day and like it is you. Paint it the way you want it. You did not have your best buddy to pick out your wife did you. LOL

"1933" was the last year for all Ford models to have black fenders and different body colors, by 1934 pretty much all Fords by then were ALL one color. Not up on the 40's but I do think there were a couple of two tone options for the 1940 year?, I gain not an expert on 40's. Color choice is personal SO personally I would go with all one color. It's your car, your choice and you have to live with it!!!

I personally like two-tone cars, but I think that year and specifically those colors wouldn't look right. I love Washington Blue - the car would look gorgeous in that color alone.

Looks nice on a truck------- Washington Blue w/ Black Fenders.

Looks better all one color on a car. Black fenders on a Coupe would look out of place.

No two tone for me.

Re: Washington Blue and Black fenders, what do you think?

Back in the day, body shops would advise black fenders on repairs due to the difficulty of matching colors on repaints. This was particularly true during periods of short supply, such as after WWII and during the Korean conflict. The practice attained somewhat of a fashion status at the time, but I don't believe it was normally available from any new car manufacturer beyond the Twenties.

Alan,

Likely you mean other than Ford given the million plus Model A, '32, and '33 passenger cars produced during the 1930 through 1933 model years.
