door handle installation I have new interior door panels for my 56 ford and need to install the door handles and window cranks back on. Were does the big spring go? does it need to be on behind the panels with the small end out toward the handle?
thanks Bill |

No, the spring gets put on first, slide it over the the splined shaft, small end inward, and big end of spring will be up against the upholstery panel, so that the panel will stay taught against the escutcheon (small round spacer between handle and upholstery). Escutcheon is # 23370 in Rons picture. So you have the spring, door panel, escutcheon, then the handle. ;) . |
Re: door handle installation The 56 Fords (like the TBirds) didn't have an escutcheon as far as I know - the part # 23370 is a plastic washer that goes between the panel and the handle, but otherwise the sequence is correct. The 23370's are available.
My 54 ford does not have any escutcheons - I think Ford dropped them starting in 1952. |

But over the years who knows how many times it or any of them might've been pulled apart and put back together? According to the parts book I have, they are used on many 53-56 Body styles. Full Part # is BA-7023370-A. |
Re: door handle installation confused drawing shows spring with big end out. is this behind the door panel? other post says put in out outside of panel with big end in.
