Re: Can it be repaired 41 horn ring? I repaired one on my 41sw. I drilled and tapped for a 4-40 shms from the inside of the hub. The crack is still visible but it has held for 5 years sofar. I have a good ring but have not gotten around to changing it. Phil

Re: Can it be repaired 41 horn ring? The material is zinc die cast, the same as your grille, non ferrous. It can be welded, I have had some of these welded years ago but can't remember who or where, the hard part is finding the right person with familiarity and talent for this material. Stay away from the miracle stuff demonstrated at swap meets, that stuff only works at swap meets. If you find someone who can weld this material start with a sample and see how you like the results.
Try asking on here if anyone knows of a good zinc die cast pot metal welder. If that fails I know a guy who has a 1941 unbroken horn ring. |
Re: Can it be repaired 41 horn ring? I just ordered some "Muggy Weld" to try and save a horn ring. Also talked to a plater yesterday who uses the stuff on die cast.. Muggyweld.com or amazon, but be sure and watch the videos

Re: Can it be repaired 41 horn ring? If you have the ring copper plated you can then use lead free solder to join it together as copper solders easily. Then have the ring chrome plated. Talk to a chrome plating shop. However, buying a replacement will be less expensive than having one chrome plated.

Re: Can it be repaired 41 horn ring? 1 Attachment(s)
I welded/soldered/pasted one together several years ago and had it plated. I used scrap pot metal for filler rod and formed a dam around the break to contain "melt"
Totally experimental. Good plating shops can do it as a routine matter. I'm happy to have them do that work now. |
