Does Wax Build Up On A Car? I've looked for an answer to this question and so far have not found it. If you wax or polish a car's surface more than once on the same day have you increased the thickness of the wax or polish on that surface more than if it was done only once? I know, it's a strange question, please indulge me.....

Re: Does Wax Build Up On A Car? I always use clay between waxing.

Re: Does Wax Build Up On A Car? Wax takes 24 hrs to set up, so if you wax it twice in one day the answer is no you are not adding another layer... If you give it time to set up say 24 hrs then rewax yes you are adding another layer....
As Gil says before waxing you should remove the contaminants by claying first... If your rewaxing in a short amount of time to add another layer you should be good and not need claying as most likely it has not accumulated contaminates yet.... The proper way before an initial wax is to clay the surface otherwise your sealing in the contaminants. I probably repeated myself a little LOL |

Re: Does Wax Build Up On A Car? Yes the new waxes set up nearly instantaneously so you would be creating a buildup. Wayne

Re: Does Wax Build Up On A Car? After many waxings, I like to go over it with WAX & SILICONE remover & then polish/wax it again.

Re: Does Wax Build Up On A Car? The issue going that route is your not removing the contaminants

Re: Does Wax Build Up On A Car? Yes the wax will build up. You should only Paste Wax your car twice a year. Spring and fall. After about 5 years you should wash off the wax with wax and grease remover. That's available at Body Shop Suppliers. I once washed the wax off of a 64 Lincoln. There was so much wax on this car that it went from a light grey colour to a powder blue, which then matched the door jams!! ( 4 gallons of Wax and Grease remover and 2 big bundles of white rags.)

Re: Does Wax Build Up On A Car? When polishing/waxing a REALLY OXIDED car, wash it several times with T.S.P.--The oxidized paint will be removed, down to the real paint & it won't end up on your towels. Makes the job SO MUCH EASIER.
Once, after cleaning a Powder Blue, '48 Chev, I scrubbed it with 0000 Steel Wool & wax/silicone remover, taped it off & sprayed it with CLEAR LACQUER & it looked like a NEW paint job!! I also carefully cleaned the wood grain dash with a damp, soft rag, taped it off & sprayed it with Clear also. Those old Chevys had BEAUTIFUL WOOD GRAINING. Bill Shine |
Re: Does Wax Build Up On A Car? I think Turtle Wax made Color Back, it was really good at removing dead paint!
All the way down to the primer :-( , but it was shiny :-) |
