Engine On CL

Looks like what could be a good deal on an engine on Craigs List . I have no connection with this , thought someone may be looking for one , I already have a rebuilt backup .

Looking at the THIRD pictured equipment, I'm wondering what the heck clutch disk is that ....if 30s engine
I'm thinking that that (solid) disk is from a '28...no ?

Maybe not. I just looked at one of a buddies engines last evening, that has been stored inside for years. It came from some type pump station..looks better that the one pictured in Michigan.

Nonsprung center clutch stock clutch as original late 28-36. I have quite a few of them, 2 which are relined. Rod

The clutch disc without springs was the original Model A disc.

By the looks of the flywheel housing, what ever engine it was tied to previously, was throwing lube around.

Hey Rod,
If you know, how do these nonsprung disk hold up compared to the more modern disks with springs ? They sure look to be THINNER than disks with springs.

Re: Engine On CL

As far as I know they are the same thickness. There was a person on the old Fordbarn who said he ran them in all 3 of his A's as he had a couple of the ones with springs that broke. He claimed no difference in performance. The A is light enough that I doubt you could tell the difference. Rod

Those front fenders look pretty pretty to me :) ! The ones on my '30 roadster didn't look that nice to start with. And, I don't know squat about metal repair...but they became serviceable...eventually !

Thanks Rod,
I read where this type disk has some benefits over the sprung type, but I don't know first hand. First off, it was said that a guy would not have the 'loose spring' syndrome with springless model; then It was said that the flywheel to crank bolts heads would not cause problems , by being hit by this disk, when the flywheel facing was cut way down ?
Maybe I'll try one on next change out :) !
If you are lightening your load of A stuff, and the rebuilt disks are part of that process, maybe you'd PM me, eh :D

Re: Engine On CL

Yes, the farm will still be for sale so I will be loosing my place to store parts. I have moved some of my parts to my garage at home to get pic's and list them for sale. I have not dug those out. May be Febuary before I get real busy with this as it is very likely I will be layed up most of January recovering from surgery. Any good ideas on what to do with 10+ rear axle hsgs after I salvage all of the usable parts from inside them? Rod
