Rolling Body Cart for 1929 AA Cab Restoration

I'm looking to remove the cab of my 1929 AA and place it on a rolling cart for restoration. I'm wondering if anyone has done this and has their plans and/or dimensions for the cart that they built. I'm looking to construct the cart from lumber - not welded metal. Any help is much appreciated!

This was a make shift but effective rig I bolted together, note the wheels!

This is the body cart I used for my huckster body. Made out of 2x6 with castors from HF. Screwed together with deck screws and castors bolted to the 2x6. Worked great.

The cab for a AA is not very heavy. You could probably get by with cutting a piece of 3/4" plywood large enough to set the cab on and just bolt some casters at the corners. If you want it a bit sturdier cut and screw on 2x4's under the plywood perimeter and bolt your casters to that. If you want to get it up higher then you would have to be a bit more creative.

1. Measure the width and length of the cab
2. Design a "box" frame that meets those dimensions.
3. Go buy some 2 x 4s
4. Build the top frame - 4 pieces
5. Cut 4 legs from the 2 x 4s to 24" to 30" high. (Your choice)
6. Attach the four legs to the insides of the four corners with 3" long wood screws, making sure that the vertical legs are plumb. Use glue
7. Add a plywood top from 3/4" CDX plywood - 3/4" overhand all around
8. Add four swivel casters on the bottom of the four legs. with screws. (HF)

Cheap and strong. I'm going to make one of these for my 30 Cab..

made out of leftover scrap metal and some harbor freight pneumatic castors. wish the darn things would hold air but make moving it around gravel and soft asphalt driveways a breeze.

I had same problem - This was cheaper than buying new tubes.

Thanks everyone. This is all super helpful. I've been traveling so this project (and my reply here) got pushed to the back burner. Now back at it and hope to have the body on a cart and inching toward a paint booth soon.

Make it at a height comfortable to work on the body

Some people just mount swivel wheels to a pallet and place the body on it.

That's nicely done.

Sometimes Harbor Fright or used movers dollies are cheaper for casters than buying the casters themselves.
