How is the correct oil level in de transmission?

Re: Oil transmission level

Fill the transmission oil to the bottom of the fill hole just below the threads for the plug. Replace the plug and you are good to go.

Level B

Level A. Stop filling just before it starts to over-flow the filler hole. Check the oil level frequently. It is amazing how fast it can get low. It is a 'bitch' to do a thorough checking (floor board removal, etc.) so I really appreciate using the Mitchell Transmission 'Dip Stick', which makes the job easy enough to to more frequently than if it was a major hassle.

Is It normal that the gearbox oil level down from A to B at 800 miles?

No it is not. If you are not dripping fluid out of the transmission then my guess is that you are losing the fluid through the rear of the transmission into the u joint.

Re: Oil transmission level

It is not dripping fluid out of the transmission. Is a new gearbox with rear shielded bearing (4,000 miles). The rear oil baffle, I think it is not installed, but the bearing is shielded, so I think it should not losing the fluid through bearing balls rear into the universal joint. Isn't it?

Re: Oil transmission level

You are right you should not be losing fluid, but you are losing it. Check the rear differential fluid level. Is it over filled?

Re: Oil transmission level

I have mounted a Mitchell overdrive, I'll check in the front tube. I have to find where is the gearbox fluid. The oil can go out through the shaft splines. Thank you.

Is it a shielded bearing or a sealed bearing? There is a difference. If it is a shielded rather than a sealed bearing, that may be your problem.

Re: Oil transmission level

It is a sealed bearing.

Re: Oil transmission level

Is your shifter tower vent hole open ? If not maybe transmission is building
pressure and forcing the oil out ?

Re: Oil transmission level

Normally the transmitter oil level will drop. Not that much in 800 miles though.

Normally some of the oil goes into the u-joint clamshell and mixes with the grease lubing the joint. But, a sealed bearing should stop that.

So, I too would recommend checking the vent in the shift tower. If the clamshell isn't leaking or throwing grease/oil, then the oil is probably going into the driveshaft tube or bellhousing.

But, as far as the level is concerned, anywhere between A and B. Once it reaches B, bring it back up to A.

Put UV leak dye in the trans then trace it very easy..:):)

ANTONIODELVAL 12-13-2015 05:44 PM

Re: Oil transmission level

A few drops of oil on the floor of the garage from u-joint and bellhousing, but very, very few drops. There isn't any oil into the driveshaft tube (front tube of the Mitchell overdrive). I will checking the vent in the shift tower. If the vent in the shift tower hole is open, I'll have to use UV leak dye to see where is leaking. Thank you.

Re: Oil transmission level

If you see leakage at the clamshell felts, then if there is a streak of 'goop' thrown along the underside of the car then its throwing the oil/grease while driving. The goop may not be getting on the floor.

Re: Oil transmission level

Fortunately I'm SKINNY & have a SLICK floor & its EASY to check my trans & diff. But then I cain't get up. I can slide clear under the length of the car, except my long nose gets hung up by the front axle. James hung me 2 knotted ropes on each side of the car, to assist in getting up & to assist in climbing in & out of the car. I have NO knee strength, from Polio & it's hard to get up onto the running boards! Hope I don't accidentally hang myself, with the knotted ropes.
