Motor mount yoke is different on A & B-engine - where to source a B one?

Today I managed installing a restored B-engine in my Model A. Everything matched well, except the front motor mount yoke. The motor mount yoke is to wide for the timing wheel cover.
I checked the larger known web shops for a B motor mount yoke, but could not find one.

Where could I buy a B motor mount yoke?
Where could I find a drawing to build it myself?
Is there some kind of adapter - A to B - in the market?

You probably have a 33-34 timing gear cover, you need a 32 cover
the A yoke will fit the 32 cover. The 33-34 also uses a shorter water
pump that the 32. See the link to Vince's site http://www.fordgarage.com/pages/timingcovers.htm

You are also going to find that your generator is about an inch too far back if you are using this cover with any '28-32 crank pulley or water pump!

The lower cover is a 33-34 cover for reference. Using the B mount (center) would require some additional work.
You could replace the front cover with the correct B cover and use the A mount or purchase an after market front mount that is made to fit the A crossmember. A & B bolt spacing are the same. The after market mount uses 2 contact points with rubber doughnuts.
Is your engine modified with a timing pointer?
Send a PM if you can't find what you need in Germany, one of us can help from state side.

Why don't you put the A cover on the B engine?

As shown on Vince's site the timing pin location is different. Rod

Hey nuwala,
What FRONT cover do you have now
I have , in use, a B front timing cover on my B engine....and using a A front yoke type mount... So, as said, an A front mount can be used.
I'm with those guessing that you have a differing front cover , than a B cover on you B engine. Is you B a G28 block?

Re: Motor mount yoke is different on A & B-engine - where to source a B one?

Thanks guys, very helpful.

Indeed I'm having that 33-34 B timing gear cover on B-diamond block (restored with new babbits, new pistons and rings, new valves, honed to 0.100)

I think I'll weld some adapter for the A-yoke to the 34 B-timing gear cover. Looks like it's impossible finding that B engine year 34 yoke in Europe.
Generator mount is fine, I'm anyway using a modern Ford (Bosch) alternator.

I'm owning several classic cars, but have never ever been helped so fast and competent in any other forum. This is by far the best car forum - thank you very much.

What your engine is going in should determine the correct cover and mount to use.
What cam you are using will determine the timing cover to use. The covers have different timing pin locations.
I would start with your engine builder to see what the engine is set up with and work back from there.

Here is a picture of the modern front mount from Bert's Model A, may help with some ideas for yours.

Just making a mount doesn't solve the question about your cam timing pin location.

Re: Motor mount yoke is different on A & B-engine - where to source a B one?

Many Model A engines (75%?) are running a B grind on there cams and should be running B covers because of the difference. The timing pin is only used for initial timing.

Re: Motor mount yoke is different on A & B-engine - where to source a B one?

Thanks Vince for the clarification. With my B engines I run either a dual point or electronic ignition. I always make my own timing markers while degreeing the camshaft. I have several stock B distributors but never tried them.

Re: Motor mount yoke is different on A & B-engine - where to source a B one?

I've managed placing an adapter between the original A-yoke and the B-timing gear cover.

Everything else was installed today and I've tried starting the engine. It took to turns of the crank and the engine idled well.
After about one minute of idling oil started dropping out of that small hole in the fly wheel housing. Another minute of idling and it became a stream filling up a quart within a minute.

What could that be?
Oil from the crank or oil from the cam?
How to find out and repair without pulling the engine again

Thanks, the oli level is right in the middle between F & E.

Did you put a gasket between the block and flywheel housing?

Do you have the drain tube installed on the rear main cap?
