Missing Door Screw
 

For my 1933 fordor model B I have a missing Door Screw. I need to get another screw for this door.
Does anyone know what this screw is called so that I can order one.

Not sure of the name, about everyone has them I would think. I would check with the bolt guy, Roy Nacewicz .

I'm not very familiar with the 33's but it might be a set screw for the lock cylinder.If so, it is recessed in the hole in the door.

My thought too! Peer into the hole with a good flashlight. I think you will see a headless setscrew with a slot for straight blade screwdriver. It might also have been replaced with an allen headed one as used by Ford later on...both are 10-32.
Try moving it a bit and squirt on some oil, so it doesn't seize up.

I think you may be right!
Just looked at the other door and that hole is without a screw too!
Strange the hole is recessed like to make a screw head semi flat against the side panel?

Strange, but the screw above the missing one/whatever was partially screwed out??
ANYONE BELIEVE IN GREMLINS? Or do they only fool around airplanes?

I think that the missing screw is a screw that holds the latch assembly to the door. It appears to be a slotted oval head 10-32 X 1/2 or maybe a 1/4 - 20 by 1/2. You can measure the surviving screw to check for size.

I think what we need is picture of another 1933/1933 door to see if they have two screws

Did they have locks on both doors in 33?

Might be different but not what I would say is the right lock screw. Bruce distribed it right.

I'd call Roy and check if he has them available.

Here is a photo of the door edge on another 33 car. Hard to see but it looks like there is something in both holes, shinny...a screw perhaps. I'm convinced there has to be a screw on either side of the lock! If not. I'll eat my Ford adjustable wrench!
Events like this make you appreciate how long ago this thing was made...It is almost like archaeology. Fun though, no rush..I'm not driving the car to Chicago tonight!

Just noticed that they only have a keyed lock on the passenger side!!
Strange...Never noticed that before...Never had an occasion to lock the car.
Why would the lock be on the passengers and not the drivers side.
I have an American left hand drive car...
Where is Rod Serling....This must be the Twilight zone.

Pass side... So you could lock the car and not get run over in traffic :).

I think the reason they put the door lock on the passenger side only was because in 1933 only a small percentage of the roads were paved. So entering and exiting the car was on the passenger side where there was a porch or walkway or sidewalk. This (I believe) was especially needed to stay away from the dirty and muddy roads on the driver's side.

And yep, each door on my '33 has two screws plus a slightly larger hole on the passenger front door to access the lock. I put a metal hole plug in mine to help keep dust out.

Maybe for courtesy, letting your guest in first then have them unlock the drivers side.
The front of the car is especially narrow, because the running board takes up a lot of width, easy for your guest to reach over and unlock your door. Funny stuff..Never thought of this before...It's great...It was another time and another age..seems even more remote now!

These cars are great! I love them..They are truly from the distant past...It is wonderful. I love the clang of the metal doors and hood. It has an ancient feel to it...Not plastic like our cars today

Yes you need another screw.
FWIW The left side is the driver side and, the right side is the passenger side.
This applies no matter where you are standing.

My mistake I should have read keyed lock passenger side, typed so fast was thinking one thing and typing another thing....Getting to old.

10-32 X 1/4", oval head, slotted screw in S-2 (Raven finish). I believe it should have a external tooth countersunk lock washer 34952-S2. But it will work without the washer maybe use a small drop of locktite.
The dovetail is the chrome or bright nickel device below the hole missing the screw. The dovetail has a different screw.
