Documenting Your Restoration For Mac Users
 

We are a Mac household here. Since my iPhone is always with me I use it to photograph the progress of my 29 tudor restoration. All these images automagically find their way into the Photos app on my Mac. I noticed that the Apple Photos app had the ability to create photo albums that include text captions. You can then order a printed version of the album and save the album as a PDF file. I figured that this might a good way to document the re-restoration of my 29 tudor. Super restoration. Thanks for sharing photos. I am a big believer of documenting with photos, that way you know how to put it together and you also can document your work.

What would you think about a Model-A restoration shop that has their employees each using an iPad with an app to;
* Track & log their individual time on each task of the restoration,
* -use 'talk-to-text' to describe in detail what work was performed during that time,
* -each employee using the iPad camera to document the progress,
* -and having the ability to store research documents and/or images that are at their fingertips should the need arise. ( This could be as simple as excerpts from the J/S or Service Bulletins for a mechanic, or a blueprint or sketch for the wood man, or even the MSDS or instruction sheet for the Painter. )

Each morning the Supervisor issues a task list to each employee's iPad for that employee to follow for the day. If the employee runs into an obstacle, a quick text to the shop foreman is done saving time having to go find the solution to the issue.

Does this seem like a "Fantasy Island" type of app? Maybe so, but this very technology is available now and likely will be in use by the first of the year!!

Hmmm, I use a Macbook and I'll have to look at that. I'm not much of a picture guy, but, I can get them into the computer but then can't get them out. So, I guess, I'm not much of a computer guy.

Brent, that sounds like a modern shop for antique restorations! I use a Imac, and have an Ipad that I use to show others slide shows of some of my restorations. I never thought of using it to document the job, but that is a brilliant idea.

What we need to do is a GNU type project for the car hobbyist. For those who are not computer nerds, GNU software are open source. They are developed by people who are interested and available for free for all.

I envision a crowd developed system going into a database. One where you can use a portable device to take pictures and enter in information about parts you have on hand.

Along with this a system that allows you to keep track of your restoration.

The neat thing is we should be able to make a Model A centered app to keep track of the restoration.

I know that there are places where this project could be set up and then developed by a group of people. It is just that it is not something I know how to do at this moment. I am sure there are others on the board that know.
