SALUTE!!!!!!

John USAF 66-70

My three fellow vets and I just had the free lunch at the Texas Road House here in Harlingen, TX. Their vets menu has about 10 items to choose from. I believe the staff works for free on this day, so we tip them very well and thank them and the manager.

This may be your day but every day should be. Many paid the ultimate sacrifice but every one of you put your life on the line. Words can not express the debt we owe to each and every one of you! Wayne

Walk up to someone in uniform not just today but every day and say "Thank you for serving". It means a lot to them to hear that.

Re: Veterans Day

It means more than you can imagine to tell a Vet simply 'Thank You'. Thank goodness we do that today especially for the Vets that were/are coming home from SW Asia.

Two good friends cycling home from Vietnam, both Army combat veterans they had been thru it all, coming home thru San Francisco in '69 and '70, both were booed, hissed, and spit on by Hippies and other low lifes at S.F. International Airport. They were snubbed by the local American Legions back here when they returned. Pathetic. Thankfully that mind set has changed today............

Re: Veterans Day

Different compassionate news article on internet today on mentioning Combat Veterans who never try to come out of their deep, Dark closets and admit to others that they were once Combat Veterans in life threatening areas.

Embarrassed in the workplace because of some jumping high out of one's seat when a telephone rings in a quiet room; or having shame for dodging away upon hearing one loud sharp bolt of thunder; or balking upon seeing one silent, bright flash of lightning in the dark; or sudden head turning and jumping back when seeing any type of unfamiliar movement out of the corner of one's eyes in a wooded area or even in a Department Store.

Some never try to learn or understand that for some Veterans, their instant reactions to life's surroundings have been altered for life.

Wish for today: May they all find inner Peace in knowing some respect them and some care.

You know how to tell an old vet from a young vet, when something happens to make the young vet hit the dirt and the old vet just keeps right on doing what he was doing without saying a word........because he's saying to himself under his breath, 'been there, done that'. Takes time, more time than others, different ways than most., if it comes at all, back to normality, that is. ;)

Happy Veterans Day to all who served. Serving is our duty. A family of vets here who stood proud for their nation - Dad (USMC), Brother (U.S Navy), and myself (U.S. Army) and would do it again.

Our thanks to all.

I second what 31 Model A said above about old combat vets reaction. . I had a free lunch today at Lou's Restaurant, Hanover NH as my celebration, being away from my home town observance today.

With your credentials, if I had a restaurant, you could eat free everyday..... breakfast, lunch and dinner. Live long and prosper!!!!
