2nd gear 35 truck
 

fully restored 1935 half ton @ 800 miles lost 2nd gear have all the others the trans was gone through replaced the parts that looked bad drained the fluid have a few small pieces took off the tower don't relay see anything bad will have to pull it out for diss. any ideas

I had the same thing happen to my 36 pickup, the rear thrust washer on the output shaft , that holds second gear broke in two. making second gear move back, and not being able to engage into the scyincro

Sometimes when second gear is lost as you describe on these early top load Ford transmissions, the thrust washer located directly behind second gear, fractures into pieces, allowing second gear to move back far enough that the small synchro teeth will not engauge with internal teeth/splines on the second/third shifting collar.

Looks like it took so long for me to post this, that Brendan beat me to the punch :D

hopefully the broken piece did not get tossed up in the oil, that happened to me. it took out a tooth on the cluster gear

If you posted your general location someone might recommend a good transmission guy.
