In need of the following photos for a project... I am in need of the folowing photos for a project I am doing:
1. The early engine pad with stamping; 2. The 2" pad with stamping; 3. The 2-1/2 inch pad with stamping; No restamp pads on 1-3. Also, please put a ruler on the bottom of the pad to indicate the length. 4. A engine pad that HAS BEEN RESTAMPED showing the ground off number (if there) and the new restamp number; 5. Assembly plant codes and numbers; 6. The rear frame crossmember showing the rear spring codes; If you can provide me with a few of these it would be most appreciated. Please direct email me at [email protected] Thanks. Pluck |
Re: In need of the following photos for a project... What about different assembly plant engine number frame stamps?

Re: In need of the following photos for a project... Steve,
Tell us again where the rear crossmembers were generally stamped for the spring code. I recall seeing a photo of it on the old FordBarn, but my memory ain't what it used to be! Deron |

THE REAR FRAME STAMPING CODES Mr. Carl Biederman from Anoka, Minnesota had found several of these codes on various Model A Ford chassis with some letters followed by a number for which was stamped into the rear areas of the vehicle. The areas for which Mr. Biederman has found these codes are as follows: 1). Rear end axle housings; 2). Top of the rear frame cross member and 3). The right rear corner of the rear frame cross member. The following list may be incomplete and may not have been impimented by all the assembly plants for all years. STAMPING BODY STYLE REAR SPRING LEAVES Roadster Seven (7) leaves C8 Coupe Eight (8) leaves OCPU0 Open Cab Pickup Ten (10) leaves T0 Tudor Ten (10) leaves TS0 Town Sedan Ten (10) leaves FD0 Fordor Ten (10) leaves |

This is how the engine number was stamped on the frame of my Buenos Aires assembled '31 Victoria. John Charlton in England has a '31 Deluxe Phaeton from Argentina stamped the same way.

Here is one that I still can't explain. Roadsters are supposed to have 7 leaves, not 8. My 29 Tudor has T0 in the same spot and my 28 Phaeton has P8 in the same spot. I don't know if it's true, but I heard someone say that they thought only the Twin Cities plant stamped the spring code on the rear crossmember. |

Interesting on the "shape" of the numbers and the faunt used. Are they the same in that respect...much different than the USA numbers used. So the engine numbers then were like the USA (USA supplied those numbered engines), then when assembled in Argentina, they must used their own set of number stamps??? They are stamped within the same area as USA on the frame. Thanks Bick. Pluck |
