Help with fan belt part number - 59AB in a 32 Hey Gang:
I'm just getting ready to put in my late 24 stud engine into my 32 Cabriolet. Now it had a 59AB in it before - running a 34 generator and 32 fan . . . but the belt is old, stretched and has no part numbers on it (and it is too long). Does anybody happen to have a wide-belt part number for a 39-48 flathead in a 32, using the early fan-mounted generator and fan? I'm using the 32 motor mounts as well (have already been 'grooved' to clear the belt). In the old days - would go down to Napa and keep trying belts until I found one, just not that way anymore (nobody has shit on the walls/shelves). Thanks! Dale |
Re: Help with fan belt part number - 59AB in a 32 Measure the length you need with rope, belt, old one.

Re: Help with fan belt part number - 59AB in a 32 I had the same problem. Different application but a barner got me the info I needed and I found a number of places that had the belt I wanted. Even got a cogged belt for my application from Scamazon. Here is the link with the info a short way down the page

Re: Help with fan belt part number - 59AB in a 32 Best place to buy fan belts, in my town anyway, is an industrial rubber supply house. They do have stuff hanging on the walls and shelves.

Re: Help with fan belt part number - 59AB in a 32 Also the height of the manifold stud that holds the generator is a significant variable. Ford placed this diffently for different years...some (1937?) have the stud way down almost on the deck, others are up around 3". Aftermarket ones are all over the place. This mandates different belts for low or high. Take your old belt to NAPA and hope someone has the old measuring device, then knock off a bit to cover the stretch.
I think Ford used only 2 belts in the low pump period, but I wouldn't be confident on that without an hour in the catalog! If you can find listings, you can compare that to the stretched belt and go with the one that's a touch shorter. |
Re: Help with fan belt part number - 59AB in a 32 Never use a industrial belt. They are rubber with zero cord.

Re: Help with fan belt part number - 59AB in a 32 My 46 coupe didn't have any belts. So I used a rope to mesure the length, add 2 inches, works perfect. You can go to a lawn mower repair shop for belts. I got mine off ebay.

Re: Help with fan belt part number - 59AB in a 32 I wanted a belt that didn't have those goofy modern looking cogs inside. Napa told me that's the only way they come now.
So I found one without the cogs at McMaster-carr and it's a Gates, 21/32" wide X 55'' dia. Worked good for my 59a with a powergen alternator using a speedway larger dia. pulley to be able to mount a mid 30's fan for $ 15.00 plus shipping. their part # 6187K144 trade size B52 phone to order # 630-833-0300 they are available every inch in diameter |
Re: Help with fan belt part number - 59AB in a 32 Went to the local Napa store and they had a B52 in stock - tried a test fit on the engine stand and it looks like it will lower the generator/fan as I wanted. So, we'll put the engine in the chassis and see how she fits!
Thanks Gang! |
