How about taking some photos, out in the sunlight, so we can see more details.
That's the oddest "A" carburetor that I have ever seen ! I sure don't know what it is.
MIKE :)

taking a picture of a black object on a white background guarantees an unusable picture
try a darker background
ive never seen a carb like that one

It is probably that carburetor that got 55 miles per gallon that caused the oil companies to place a hit on the hapless inventor! It is a carb & air filter combo.

Could the loovers be there to function as a noise reduction feature?
Please post a pic with the loover cup removed. Thanx, Jim

Re: Rare Model A Carb !

It looks as if it is a carb that requires preheat ( because of the metal shields ) as if it might be for use with diesel or kerosene.

Man, that is a really odd carb. I think it belongs on this odd Model A intake manifold.

The louvers act as a silencer and as an air cleaner. The air is spun around as it enters, and throws the dirt to the outside where it falls to the bottom. The bottom is easily removed to dump the accumulated dirt by just spinning the thumbscrew loose and swinging the bail wire to the side.

Have you tried to use the carb?

Re: Rare Model A Carb !

It looks like a possile experimental Holly carb. On forever4 website in Jan of 05 there are photos of a simular design, the only difference is the slotted cover on the bottom held on by a bale.

Nice manifold Tom, have you ever tried it out?

It's not mine. I saw it at the Kansas City national meet about 10 years ago. It was found at a farm auction about 50 miles north of me near North Branch, MN.

It would be nice if the owner installed it and did some dyno tests.
