clutch pedal

after replacing my clutch and putting my engine back in there is a spring that goes from the back of oil pan which holds the clutch pedal with tension so it sits even with brake pedal.......I can't figure where the other end of long spring connects to clutch pedal or assembly?

OK, for starters I have little experience with 48 cars!!! I normally work with earlier cars and some trucks in the 48 time frame. I believe that the spring you are referring to is the brake spring, not the clutch spring. I have attached three figures from the Green Book. The first two are the brake pedal springs for the car and trucks, the spring hookup looks similar between the two. The third figure is of the car clutch pedal spring which connects to the rear using a hole in the crossmember. Both springs attach to a groove in the pin that goes through the pedal arm. The front of the brake spring does not appear to attach to the oil pan (at least on the truck) but to a hole in the transmission adapter (commonly referred to as the Hogshead). On the car this could be the pan or a hole on the bellhousing? Hope some of this helps. The photos are of a 52 truck, the first four are brake spring and the last three are clutch spring.
