I know picture isn't best but.... What is tool on left side used for?

This is a piston ring groove cleaner. It removes the carbon from the ring grooves.

I still have one in my tool box. there are different attachments for the one end for different ring groove sizes. most people don't have a use for them anymore. almost all engines that are rebuild in a machine shop use new pistons ,so the tool is not needed. I used these to overhaul engines years ago. the difference between a rebuilt and an overhauled eng. is that the rebuilt is mostly all new parts , where as an overhauled eng. is one that uses most of the old parts that are still within spec's.. at least that is my definition, maybe not for others.
