28/29 rear coupe/roadster reinforcing plate
 

Does anyone know if a model A parts supplier (or anyone) that makes the reinforcing plates that are spot welded in the area where the rear coupe/roadster fender mounts to the splash apron for a 28/29 coupe/roadster rear fender. I didn't see a part like this in any of the catalogs I have. I am attaching a picture of the reinforcing sheetmetal plate on a NOS rear fender. I actually need the plate for the other rear fender - right side.

I have some originals from fenders that are basicly junk. Going to be out of town until the 2nd, but can look on the 3rd or 4th. I have not seen any new ones offered for sale. Rod

Rod,
Are the reinforcing plates you have junk or the fenders junk? The one on my RR fender is rust pitted and has a number of rust holes. I could probably repair it, but a better one would be much less work for me. I think coupe/roadster plates are different then tudor fenders, but I am not sure. I was hoping to find a better one that is not pitted or have rust holes in it. Thanks for the post.

The fenders are junk (almost split in half). I will have to look at the re-inforcements. They have been in the rafters of the parts shed for many years and I honestly don't remember. Rod

My observations from my 31 fenders.

I bought 2 repro fenders. The splash apron and the running board inner metal were both made of much thinner metal then original.

I removed both pieces from junk rear fenders. I could put the original running board piece on the repro fenders but the shape of the splash apron part was just not even close to right. I had to use the reproduction ones that came with the fender.

So my guess. If you have original fenders you need to get some from original fenders.

NO one makes a good reinforcement. I do the same as Rod and save any parts of a original fenders that is good. 28-29 coupe & roadster are the same, But the Sedan fenders are different on that part. I have mostly 30-31 fenders and parts. so I can not help you.

Contact Will Conkrite out of Rock Hill SC. He was making the reinforcements for the rear fenders. I used a set that I got from and they were exact. No junk.....
