Head Gasket

Do you use the same type of head gasket with aluminum heads as you do cast iron heads?

Re: Head Gasket

Lots of opinions on this - given the natural problem of electrolysis (between dissimilar materials). In recent times I have been using 'BestGasket' composite gaskets with good luck for all my installations - they just make great products across the board. You still should consider methods to reduce electrolysis - here is a post on this site with some good information:

Re: Head Gasket

I think Bored&Stroked post is spot-on. Fiber head gaskets are the norm for all modern engines with iron or aluminum heads. But as always, be sure the head and block surfaces are clean to the skim of a razor blade across their surfaces. The downside to fiber gaskets is you'll have to have a pack of those razor blades to remove the stuck-on remains of the gasket if the head has to be pulled again.
