Granddad's Model A Bill of Sale

Just wondering what body style number his Model A was, listed as Town Sedan motor # 2084396, switch key #936, door key #22133. Cost him $775.75, Key Ring was .25 cents, Lock, cover, Quail $8.00, tire & tube was $13.00. Registration added $8.00 and he was out the door for $802.25. This was September 6, 1929, was this a 1929 or a 1930?

I would say a '29. I think '29 had the most cars built so with an engine built in
july and still strong sales I would say the it would have still had 1929 features.

What was the tyre/tube cost for?

Re: Granddad's Model A Bill of Sale

The cars came with a spare wheel standard not a spare tire which was extra.

So, if a buyer bought a standard car with no frills, he would get just a rim on the rear?

Yep. Kind of cheap, eh?

sounds good to me.

I'm always befuddled when I see cars with brand new tires on the spare wheel.

when I buy a set of tires, I get 4 and use the best old one for a spare.
if none of the old ones are suitable, I can always find another local Model A guy with some used tires on hand........

The 1929 to 1930 change over for Sedans was Jan 1930 (trucks and comm was in June 1930), so given the dates of engine and bill of sale; I would say that late July or Aug 1929 was when the car was built, making it fully a 1929 :D.

Funny to learn/hear about extra cost for tire but wheel was included. (Always wanting more $$$$).

Enjoy, D

The Town Sedan Body style could of been either a 155-A (Murray) OR a 155-B (Briggs).

Engine was built and stamped on August 7, 1929.

More than likely a 1929 Town Sedan as stated above.

My Dad bought a Fordor on September 28, 1928, motor number 417892, key numbers are 1038 and 1130. I find data like this very interesting and riding with Dad in this Model A as a child sparked my interest in the Model A. As a child I always stood up in the right front until I grew so my head hit the roof, and I began to ride sitting down. I wonder if this car is still in existence as it was traded in towards another car around 1933.

Barnstuf,

Can you tell us anything more about your Bill of Sale?

Where was the town he bought it in? That will tell us the assembly plan...well close to it.

The engine in his car was built and stamped on September 13, 1928.

15 days!

When I worked at the Chevrolet dealership in the 70's, the Chevy pickups were still delivered with only a spare rim. I was in charge of dealer prep for the new cars and trucks and always installed a cheap tire (usually Uniroyal) on the spare rim.

Also to save money in the 70's many new cars and trucks weren't painted on the starters, driveshafts, and rear axles, and springs.

Hello Tom, That is why we had our cars undercoated during that time period. Pretect from the weather.

Back in the late 70s I restored a 29 coupe and put a perfect wheel with no tire on the spare. It got a lot of attention at the MARC national that year in Dearborn.
