Unusual Helmet Coil

Recently I obtained a NORS helmet coil for my 1934. It fits perfectly on my 3 hole distributor but it arrived minus a coil brush and spring. When I go to install the correct brush and spring I find that the hole for thisin the coil is way to small -Not only will the spring not fit in there but even the brush is to fat . Not sure what is going on I suspect I will need to drill out the hole so I can install the brush - Any ideas what I have -Karl

Re: Unusual Helmet Coil

I just recently got a rebuilt coil for my 39 Coupe from Skip Haney. All there well packaged and works as new. Did yours come from a rebuilder or just a parts supplier?
To deal with a reputable guy like Skip means top of the line unit and of course backed by his excellent reputation. The old saying you get what you pay for.
I went this direction ex USA knowing the freight is high but confident that the product received was top rate. i was not disappointed.

Re: Unusual Helmet Coil

I believe the later 37-41 coils use a smaller brush and spring. I would not drill the hole to make it larger!!

Re: Unusual Helmet Coil

They used two different brush and spring setups .. Both are available thru Macs.....one large and one small

The brass tube the brush rides in is thin and also has a coil wire
soldered to it. Drilling runs the risk of going through the side walls
and disconnecting the coil wire. G.M.

Re: Unusual Helmet Coil

You should get the later brush set that L fit ,Or put the coil on the shelf as a display as it sound like a cross over model .NOS coils are never any good ,Ted
