Tool compartment covers

What type of wood and finish are the trunk tool compartment covers on a 1941 Ford? These compartments are at the rear of the trunk floor. There are 2 with a divider which is part of the floor.

Not sure about '41 but '40 used plywood with a black wood preservative applied.

My original 40s look to be about 3/8" thick plywood. Don't know about 41s.

Thanks, guys. I am sure they were all the same. My covers are plywood and painted black, not stained. They are pretty rough so I thought I would make new ones.

I believe that Ford used thin black paint which when applied look like stain.

Yep, black paint it will be. Where does your Ford Barn name come from? I was an Engineer and Conductor for BNSF.

Boiled linseed oil and black OIL based paint @ 50/50 would be my recommendation.
