ORIGINAL Sprayed Body Deadner

Does anyone have an original Roadster or Coupe showing the sprayed-on Body Deadener that was used on the quarter panels? Would like a photo if possible for Part 3 of the Rumble Seat to Trunk Conversion article.

Is it the same tar-like deadener sprayed on the inside of the Fordor panels? If so, I can send you a pic. from an unrestored Fordor.

It might be to that some plants did not use the stuff...I to have seen it both ways. It was on my September 1929 Coupe.

OK, then I can help.

As mentioned above, I haven't seen it in the quarter panels on any of the roadsters, but I do have it in the quarter panels of my Briggs Fordor. They also applied it to the doors and the rear panels right up to the window line.

My 1931 Coupe has it on the doors only. There is none in my Victoria.

Same as Bob only had it on the coupe doors.

Yes it was called 'Body Shultz". You could buy it from the Auto Body Jobbers and the 1 Qt. tin would screw onto a syphon type gun. Basically a Air blow gun with a pickup tube off of the bottom of it. The lower the air pressure you used the heavier the texture of the sound deadener would be. After about 48 hours it would set up and the surface would be dry to the touch. The closest thing to it now is black rockerpanel coating. It's now in a spray bomb but the texture is not as coarse.

My November 1930 Murray town Sedan had no sound deadener in the doors.

BTW, If you want the original type you will need to add natural mineral fibers. Or so I believe.

I have noticed little white fibers in the stuff when sandblasting the doors.
