47 mercury gauges

As I continue to sort through the parts from my auction car, I can't figure out what background color my 47 convertible gauges should be. The Merc book even lists two part numbers for the charge and temp gauges. The listed oil gauge is a 6M-9273 which appears to have a black background. The fuel is listed as a 6M--9280. Ammeter is listed as 6M-10850 or 59A-10850, temp is listed as 6M-10883 or 59A-10883. I see an oil gauge listed on EBAY as 6M-9273 and it has a black background, but then a ammeter listed as 6M-10850 at an old parts place has a silver background...UGH! anyone know or have pics from their 47 Mercury convertible?

By 47' I believe you should have the black background. In general, one should be skeptical of eBay listings, etc. Do you not have the original gauges for confirmation?

Re: 47 mercury gauges

I have a 48 Mercury convertible. The speedometer, clock and gauges are "silver" or sort of a spun stainless. The surround for the gauges (behind the glass) is a satin black. On Fords, the surround is silver and the gauge faces are black. I believe the correct 6M 10883 gauge is silver. Because the black gauges fit fords, there are more of them around than the silver Mercury ones. When I got my car it had the wrong black Ford gauges in it. I found silver ones on eBay.

The back ground in the gauges in my 47 Merc coupe are black. The speedo and clock are a silver/gold color and I'm sure they are all original.
