Kingpins I'm working on my front axle. I've got about a 3/4 inch bow, which I think I can get out. I just noted that there is some play in the kingpins when just inserted in the axle without spindle. How much play can be tolerated in the axle ? Spindle are tight, looks like new bushings.

Re: Kingpins Sounds like the axle holes are wallowed out. There should be zero play in the axle.

Re: Kingpins I think the wedge pins tighten up the king pins in the axle.
But only 0.001 after honing bushings for the king pin in the spindle. Al Leach. |
Re: Kingpins Take the 3/4" bow out of the front axle with a hydraulic jacking system COLD! Most Auto Body shops have this kind of machine. Takes only minutes by someone who is knowledgeable.

Re: Kingpins You may want to look at what I did to straighten an axle.
Axle striaghtening Do not try to guess by the bow of the axle. At the very least use a long straight edge to sight down the centerlines of the 4 holes. They should be inline. |
Re: Kingpins A good axel can usually be had for $50 or less.

Re: Kingpins Kevin, thanks for posting that. I've been wondering about the angles of the holes in the axle.

Re: Kingpins Just picked up a very nice axle, no bow and King pins fit, $50.
Thanks for the advice. |
