Accelerator Bracket
 

Hi,

Trying to get my 1930 coupe on the road after correcting numerous issues from previous owners. I have installed rear Float-A-Motor mounts and also the proper spring hardware on the original front yoke mount. Also tightened body mount bolts which were missing or loose. Now the right side of the accelerator bracket is jammed against the firewall forcing the throttle open. Les Andrews vol. 1 says to tighten the front mount until accelerator bracket has clearance. I have done so mashing the lower front motor mount spring and then tried replacing the spring with a solid bushing. The bracket is still jammed against firewall.

Any suggestions?

Had a similar issue, solved mine by bending the gas pedal in the cab back to vertical.

Putting spacers under the rear Float-A-Motor mounts might help.

Forgot to ask: how does the rearword slope of the engine look? IIRC it should be 3º off horizontal.

If the Float-A-Motors changed the Engine Location from the Stock Original Location I'd get rid of them. The Pedals and Drive line angle may be compromised.

You only tighten the front mount nut enough to get the cotter pin in the hole.. At that point make sure your crankshaft is aligned to the crank hole / bearing.
If it is off you could have installed your FAMS upside down... As far as the throttle linkage hitting if the crank aligns then most likely something else may be bent on the linkage or linkage assy.

linkage arm looks bent way too far.

Thanks! FAM are installed right side up. I can read "TOP" when looking down on them. Also my starter switch hits the center of the firewall hole so I think placement is pretty good. I guess I will have to take the accelerator bracket off for some straightening.

I hope I didn't over compress front mount springs but I guess we'll see.

I have seen some that did not specify TOP... Maybe that's older stock stuff...

First of all your throttle arm looks bent. The link from the carb to throttle assy. May be too long, as incorrect lengths are plentiful out there . Many folks bend them to accommodate if necessary although I don't care for that solution. I would rather have the correct length .
I would make sure my mounts are properly set and as Mitch said you have the correct alignment for the crank and spring action too and bottom on the front yoke mount as per service bulletins.
The arm on the throttle assy can be bent cold as it is a forging

If you can study another one that is correct and then yours And then hopefully it can be figured out easily. I have tons of throttle assy so if you need one let me know

So, the arm on the carb side of the crossover should be straight not bent? But it should be angled back toward the floorboard? Is my arm not oriented correctly on the shaft?

No, the two uprights from the mounting bolts should be curved FORWARD, so the linkage is close to the rear of the engine block. I've posted pictures in the past and a search might turn them up. You should be able to use a pry bar to bend the linkage forward while it's till mounted, and you don't need to heat it. It's forged and can be bent cold without worry of breaking it.
