Replating/Restamping 28-29 Headlamp Shells Do any of the old-timers remember if someone used to offer a service to replate the 28-29 shells and restamp the script? It seems to me someone did that years ago...yeah, I know,. and Coolidge used to be President.
I have not seen a current reference to it in years so this might be a question without a useful answer. Still, with all the emphasis herein of rehabilitating old parts in lieu of repros, it's an intriguing subject. |
Re: Replating/Restamping 28-29 Headlamp Shells I would be extremely suspicious of anyone who actually knows who Coolidge* is. It would be an indication that they are either smart . . . . or . . . . old.
That being said, I did have a sticker on the windsheild of my '15 Model T that said: "keep Cool With Coolidge". Which may prove that I am either smart . . . or . . . old. Some say one thing, some say another. Some say both. But I do know that I am old ! Doug Vieyra * - don't know ? . . . . Google it ! |
Re: Replating/Restamping 28-29 Headlamp Shells There were also different fonts to the scripts if I remember right.

Re: Replating/Restamping 28-29 Headlamp Shells While the set-up might be difficult ( -not impossible, just difficult) but using a laser etcher like used in the trophy biz would be a good way to do this etching. Might even best to silver solder the present script, or copper it and buff it until it is gone, then just laser etch in the new stamping. The artwork could be done in a graphics program and then saved to the etching machine.

Re: Replating/Restamping 28-29 Headlamp Shells The 30-31 commercial buckets are a pain. when you prime and paint them the imprint is gone.I've often wondered if the script could be restamped.
