Figured I'd post some pictures of some original parts I saved instead of buying repro junk.
First up is my coupe's battery holder. The bottom plate was almost totally gone, so I cleaned it up and welded a new bottom plate to it. Also, the threads on the one hold-down stud were stripped, so I cut the bad part off and made a replacement.

Next up are my brake rods.
Most of my coupe's brake rods needed some kind of work. Some were bent pretty bad. Some had worn areas. The return springs had "eaten" away the metal, and the clevis pins had the holes worn oversize. I welded-up the low spots. Also used a copper rod to fill the holes so the weld wouldn't stick. I installed steel bushings in some of the more severely worn holes.
Follow the pictures. They show the before and after.
I tried to keep as many of the original characteristics as I could.

Kool! I always try to save original parts too,just to see if I can, nothing ventured, nothing gained. At the San Diego Auto Museum restoration shop, I tackled the bottom panel of a 1929 Erskine radiator shell, It was 90% gone and the 10% was lace. With a torch, brazing rod and a good detailed photo I proceeded to braze "on air" for 2-3 days to see if I could save it as a replacement was not available. Two pounds of brazing rod later and a LOT of grinding we had a playable shell-though very expensive! It would have been easier to braze in a patch panel but I wanted to see if I could do it.

Nice work repairing the brake rods. The one with the wear at the anti=rattler was dangerously worn, to where it might have broken under sever pedal pressure.

Hoogah, anyone can do this. It's not hard. You just have to believe in yourself and have patience.
I feel the same way as Ray. If I try and fail, so what. Nothing lost except my time.

The first picture shows what happens when the antirattlers don't have good spring pressure to keep the upset in the pocket.

Good work. We need to be careful about parts that are crucial to safety, like brake rods. It had not broken and hopefully it is stronger than before, but that would be my only concern.

I am often the patron said of hopeless items of many kinds, so I am all about salvage and repair, if we can.
