1930 Standard Roadster Top Irons Well, my old faded top has ripped and it is time to replace it. At the same time I need to install different top irons, the ones I have are non-folding and for a roadster pick-up (yep, relatively new and still learning, missed that one when I bought the car). So I am on the hunt for top irons. It is a standard roadster and I would like to keep it that way. It is also a driver, just used for enjoyment not judging, but I would like to keep it as original looking as practical. It looks like I have at least three options. 1. Buy new original type 2. Buy a new "universal" type from Mike's and 3. Find a set of used originals (they don't seem to pop up often).
If you have changed or replaced top irons, can you share some of your experience and provide some advice? |

Re: 1930 Standard Roadster Top Irons BigErn good idea to keep your Standard Roadster, standard! We all enjoy seeing them like they were found in nature.
Not to be unkind, we HAVE a '30 Dlx Roadster and love it, but they are like Mustangs it seems everybody's got one:) |
Re: 1930 Standard Roadster Top Irons You are right that originals of the standard are very tough to find. Way back in the 60's when my Dad and I did our refurbish, we could not find any. Fortunately, we found a person at Page's Model A, that carefully built up our old rusting ones with weld and made them usable. I suggest contacting Bert's to see if there are any originals. By the way, I will be making my first visit to Denver this weekend and have reserved Tuesday for walking around Bert's for my first visit.
