Hank Williams ans the Ford V8

Back when I was I teenager I had a 1941 Ford pickup. It had a radio that I cobbled into the truck that worked great. I remember the Hank Williams songs that came out of the speaker and still to this day have shivers when I hear them.

Can anyone remember these days?

Got a hot rod Ford and a two dollar bill. That line has been in my head for decades.

Sure. His songs still come out of my speakers, along with
all the rest of the Grand Ol' Opry stars of the past.

I'm not old enough to remember those days but I'm a huge fan of Hank I was friends with Braxton Schuffert who had a band in the 1930s and when Hank was 16 years old they became friends and Hank got his steart in Braxtons band. Braxton has told me numerous stories about their travels playing in school houses and dance halls. Driving a 35 Ford sedan that Burnt more oil than gas . Braxton died a couple years back at the age of 97. Here is a picture of him and me about 4 yrs ago with my 40 coupe. I'm holding a copy of Rocking Chair Daddy he recorded in 1950 that was written by Hank for him. I have that record on my 1946 Rock-Ola jukebox and play it now and then. Braxton and Hank were very close friends and he was one of the pallbearers at Hanks funeral.

Hank jnr is cool too but some Hank Williams 3 tunes are out there , cocaine , the pills I took , stoned and alone, alone and dyin. Way too deep to have fun cruising
Hank Williams and Hank Jnr is our choice first.
Still they play when ever we cruise.

Ain't that the truth! Hank himself and Bocephus
That's real country music! Hank 3 needs to have a word with himself,
It's one thing taking lots of Prescription drugs so you can stand up and walk marginally better with a very painful medical problem, and recreational drug taking, and singing about it and thinking it's cool. a massive difference.

You want shivers down your spine? Look up a song called "The conversation" by Hank Jr and Walon Jennings. For real goose bumps and hair standing up on the back of your neck, look up a song called "The Ride" by David Allen Coe, you won't be disappointed.
Have a listen,
Martin.

Going down the highway, listering to Hank/Hank Jr. is great------but even better when you are driving Hank Jr's formerly owned 40 Ford sedan.

I like any old country music, all the new stuff is no good! I wish that my 36 pickup would take me and my wife back to 1946, I think I would stay there

Had a country band for many years, played about all of Hank's, still pick up my axe about every morning after checking out the Barn and play a few before going out in the shop. Got a big picture about 2 foot square of Hank hanging in my shop. Walt

Re: Hank Williams ans the Ford V8

great memories (al) and others. i grew up with hank....don't really care for jr., met him for a minute and he insulted my wife who was pregnant at the time, of course he was drunk but he was a jerk. hank the 3rd is a real mystery to me and i have heard him sing some of hanks early songs and can't tell them apart. we live in a very rural area and in the 50's we had to drive up on top of a hill to pick up good music like del rio texas and their country jamboree. i can't listen to todays "country" which is not country at all.....pick up trucks, tractors, parking lots....anything that they can rhyme is called a song. but, my opinion----hank is the best and always will be.

Hank Jr. story

He was in the crowd (drunk) my uncle's tavern in Hamilton Mt. in the 80's. House band was playing. Invited him on stage to play. Took guitar from house band guitarist. Said a few words about how ugly the women in the club were, told the guitarist about his crappy guitar and dropped it on the stage. The whole band jumped on him and beat his ass.

Hee hee.
I was going to tell that story but you beat me to it.
A friend was there.
Hank was really hurting when they carried him out that night.

I too was raised on bob wills, Hank Williams sr. I still have some of the old 78's when he was going by Luke the drifter, I have in my collection just about 250 of Hank sr. recordings some were on reel to reel and weren't even released till the last 10 years or so, we used to sit on the front porch and pick a lot of hank and some of bob wills, Billy grammar, little jimmy dickens, Patsy cline , Al Dexter ,Tex Williams, Faron Young , Kitty Wells , Blind boy fuller , to name a few, oh how wonderful life was back then, as someone wrote I was country when country wasn't cool !
