B counter balanced crank ?
 

Hi All
I've got an extra B crank thats standard on the mains and rods, but it looks like due to some pitting, it will at least have to be polished or turned 5 or 10 th's.
I have a couple folks that want it, My question is so that nobody gets
hurt what do you think a going price should be?

If they want to put it in an A it need to be ground undersized anyway.

If it is a "C" crank, with the counterweights part of the forging, it can be worth up to $400.If it is the early "B", a lot less, no more than $100. The smaller (more undersized) the less value.

I thought a B crank had counter weights and bigger bearing journals. Am I wrong? I don't know much about model B's - I knew C cranks have counter weights.

I believe the early "B" cranks had "Press Fit" counter weights on them.

The counter weights are part of the forging on it.

Some B cranks had press on weights. Sometimes known as BB cranks.
These are very desirable for race engines.

That makes a lot more sense. Make a press on weight to use on all the standard cranks already made. I wish I had a set of the press on counter weights to use on my standard crank.

Here is a series of photos that shows the B , "BB" and "C" cranks which I took in 1976 while building a B block with full oil pressure and drilled "C" crankshaft for a Miller overhead valve engine.

I know there is no such thing as a C crank but many folks call them that.

Film must have been Plus-X or Tri-X B/W film.

Sorry Vince if this duplicates postings on your website but I did not find any such photos when I quickly looked there.

1. First photo is of the "C" and standard B crank.

2. Second photo is of the "C" and "BB" cranks.

3. Third photo is of the drilled "C" crank this crank is STD Rods and STD mains.

Benson, Is that drilled "C" crank still STD.-STD.?
