Spring Shackle question? Are the Ford script spring shackles with no cotter pin hole and drive in grease fittings correct for judging purposes on any year Model A Ford?
|
Re: Spring Shackle question? No all shackles would have cotter pin holes. If these are used look real close, sometimes the nut was turned off and sheared the cotter pin. Because of how A shackles are installed the cotter pins is needed.

Re: Spring Shackle question? Those NOS were Ford service and did not have holes so no sheared off cotter pins. Don't know why they did that unless they had lock nuts. Fine point judging would require cotter pins as that's how they came originally so you'll have to drill them usually with carbide since they're hardened.

Re: Spring Shackle question? When did Ford stop using cotter pins in the service replacement shackles for the A?

Re: Spring Shackle question? I have successfully drilled cotter pin holes in NOS Ford shackles that didn't have cotter pin holes in them. If you need to know how I did it, send me a PM.
