Need A Dimension

I need the width between the front spring shackle mounts at the end of each wishbone, wishbone to wishbone, on a 40 Ford.

For my latest project I am using a 40 front spring in the rear, with 35-36 rear wishbones, connected to a 9" rear. I need that dimension so I can make some kind if fixture to mount it properly.

Thanks for your help ....

Tom, My car sits low so I couldn't reach under it and accurately measure with a tape measurement. But, using a piece of string, I got 42 inches from the centerline of the top wishbone shackle pin to the centerline of the opposite top wishbone shackle pin. I hope someone can measure this distance directly for you. If someone does not, I will jack up my car and remeasure for you again.

My pickup is in a rented garage right now so I am not able to measure it. I have found this dimension in a couple of catalogs for '35 - '40 perch centers - 38.5". I hope this helps. How is the project going?

Tom, A chart in the Posie's catalogue shows the distance I think you're after as 42-3/8" when using a stock length spring. I verified this on a 78-3010 axle and wishbone this morning. Are you using a stock spring or an aftermarket one such as Posie's? If aftermarket, note that there are several different lengths sold if you're not sure exactly what you have.

The 38.5" mentioned above is the distance between the wishbone mounting holes in the axle I believe.

Good luck, keep posting pictures as your project proceeds.

Think the measurement you are looking for is 42 3/8 inch.

J: Thanks for posting that.
My 42 inch "string measurement" was close but you did it right.
