Oil Presure in a 50 Flathesd What is a Safe Oil pressure on a 50 Flathead? Today I was going to go to a car show in Whitehall Montana and meet up with my ex-father in law who was showing his 62 Scout. I haven't really driven my truck other than around the block. So I got ready to go and thought I would drive the Cadillac, Then I thought maybe I would also go to Butte to Evil Knievel Day's so what the heck I will ride the Harley then thought I will be doing enough riding next week do to leaving for Sturgis next Thursday So what the heck I am going to drive the truck and put it to the 120 mile round trip so I backed the truck out of the garage and away I went. The truck ran flawlessly the whole way over and back. Averaged 55-60mph both ways. The oil stayed about 28lbs on a newly wired NOS gauge. I have never switched the sending unit. Does 28lbs sound normal or low?

Re: Oil Presure in a 50 Flathesd I'd be happy with that. I'm sure some others will say different but like I said, I would be happy with that.

Re: Oil Presure in a 50 Flathesd It ran flawlessly.
28 is plenty for a long journey at constant speed. More would be better, but 28 is nothing to worry about. Just my opinion. Mart. |

Re: Oil Presure in a 50 Flathesd 28 lbs is pretty near the stock amount. I run 5-20 oil, get 10 lbs at idle and 40 at 2000 rpm. At 28lbs you can be sure all the oil from the pump is going to the bearings and not the relieve valve.
