Modern Points Gotta replace the modern points in my distributor. According to Les Andrews book 1970 Ford V8 points are the ones to use.
What brand and stock # are best quality that I can buy locally ie from NAPA, Autozone etc ? Thanks Jon in Ohio |
Re: Modern Points Ford V8 points are the same. Its hard to find good quality points and condensers today. The expensive ones from NAPA have been working fine. Sorry I don't remember the part numbers, but, they were posted here not too long ago.
The modern upper plates that are less than about 10 years old work just fine. Don't forget to lube the cam. |
Re: Modern Points 1 Attachment(s)

Re: Modern Points These are the numbers I use in the one I have converted:

Re: Modern Points When replacing your modern points, IF your condenser has been workin' GOOD, just leave it there.

Re: Modern Points I found the modern points with the condenser on the upper plate that was on my tudor a PIA. You needed three hands to adjust the point gap. I have gone back to the original style with an easily adjustable fixed point.

Re: Modern Points Brain fart here . What is the initial setting on the modern points.
|
Re: Modern Points same as original points .018... i set new ones at .020 to compensate for the rubbing block to wear in

Re: Modern Points Thanks for all the info - I picked up some Standard FD8183VT points at a local parts store - hope they last for awhile (hecho in Mexico).

Re: Modern Points I have not used any NOS Ford points lately.
But the V-8 Motocraft points generally need to be readjusted after 300 to 400 miles of install even when the block is lubed. After that they "settle in" and remain at the correct gap much longer. I believe that the block is "wear hardened" in the first 3 or 4 hundred miles or so. Has anyone else noticed this? |
