Re: 1951 mercury window fuzzies Yes, on the outer trim stainless I have held the fuzzy in place with spring clamps and drilled new sets of holes. Then formed out of .030 s.s. safety wire, new '[[' shaped clips for each location.
The garnish molding side was done the same way except I used 3/32" dia. 'pop' rivets. There is another alternative which I have heard of and that is to glue them in place using urethane cement like what is used to install windows. |
Re: 1951 mercury window fuzzies I have used 3M superstrength adhesive with lasting results, remove rivets and sand and clean area and use small clamps until dry

Re: 1951 mercury window fuzzies Some previous owner on one of my 51 cars decided to use screws on the outside pieces and drove some of them right through the stainless window moldings. If you want close to OEM, 51 Merc Ct has it. Using .032 aircraft soft stainless safety wire works good. Some weather adheasive or a quality RTV will hold it in place and the wire formed into staples will keep it there pretty much just like original. Make sure you do a good job prepping the metal before installation to keep corrosion at bay.
Aircraft Spruce has the 3/32 rivets for nut plates that are very small and different lengths are available too. They can be installed with a pop riveter as long as it has a pulling head that works with the small stems. The rivets are available in pan head and flush head styles and are not too expensive. |
