I don't remembers seeing anything on Tex Smith dying, did I just miss it?

Thanks for bringing this up, I wasn't aware of his passing either. Tex will long be remembered as a great writer particularly to those growing up in the '50's and '60's, but his career spanned much longer, even starting his own Hot Rod Mechanix, along with a series of how-to books. Godspeed Tex.

Gary Medley, Tom Medley's son, reported that Tex passed-away about two weeks ago from a lingering illness. He had been living in Australia for about the last ten years. DD

Sorry to hear about Tex. He published many magazines and books and did a couple of books on the flathead motor. Didn't realize he moved to Australia.

Here is a great photo Tex's granddaughter posted on the HAMB. Some how I never signed on the HAMB, just look there from time to time. I think I'll have to change that soon.

Very sad, he was a lovely man, chatted on the phone with him a couple of times bout 15 years ago. Got some real good info off him including some incredible phone numbers of others that he felt would help my quest for information, read speed secrets.
Published a good selection of magazines and books, think I've read most all of them. Even got a hard cover book titled "How to fix up old cars" it's old maybe 1960's (I'll have to dig it out) it's got prices for paint and materials and such. Found in a second hand book shop in Brighton England!
Gota ask, in that great pic, is that the "junk yard dawg"?
His input on the hot rod world was immense, he will be sorely missed.

I remember him from my earliest discovery of car magazines, along with other gurus like Roger Huntington, Don Francisco, and Racer Brown. He was a major force in keeping our old car culture alive through the days of superstocks, musclecars, and dune buggies!
