My opinion is Bob Drake seals.
If the glass is cut correctly, the Drake seals fit right & look right.

For this type of seal I buy one from all known suppliers, inspect and test fit each one. Use the best one and return the others. Just part of doing business these days.

I can't speak to the goodness of '40 windshield seals because I have never done one, but on '35/'36 passenger cars, I can say that Drakes seal, especially his formed corner version, works better than any of the other offerings available that I am aware of, from an ease of assembly standpoint. How well his seals hold up in use, long term, compared to the other offerings, is unknown to me. Both aspects are important to know.

I used Drake's seal and asked they when I bought it if I should use any kind of sealer with the WS seal . Answer was "don't need it". After installation I got water leaking in at the bottom corners. Called them and they said "You have to use sealer". Go figure. Other than that nice seal and fit great.

It is something that you and a good friend could do. Not that difficult or time consuming, but it takes 2 people. Remember, glass doesn't bend. One person holds the windshield and rubber gasket in place while the other person pulls the cord allowing the rubber flange to slide over the window opening. Use a piece of cord and liquid soap. I think the DRAKE seals included instructions. One side goes in first and then the other. Don't recall which side goes in first, but you will see this when you remove the center divider. Be very care that your screwdriver does not slide out of the garnish molding screw slots when removing and re-installing the garnish molding. Wrap the tip of the screwdriver blade with masking tape to it will fit nice and snug in the screw. You don't want blade to slip and punch a hole in your headliner or scratch your dash. Also, "tape off" your dash so as to avoid any scratches and be sure to install the glass so the window "bugs" are as they were. Read pages 1-9 of WINDOW GLASS INSTALLATION 1940-46 HERE:

Measure your new glass, including thickness, to make sure it is the exact same as your OEM glass. DO NOT THROW AWAY YOUR OEM GLASS BEFORE INSTALLING YOUR NEW GLASS. I am sure you will be successfull.
