I would say yes it is, plus in the Lorin Sorensen video 'The 1935-36 Fords' they mentioned how he was never sitting in an office, was always on the shop floor checking on things.

He would have been tough to work under, demanded 125% out of everyone.

During WWII he was written up in one of the magazines. Henry Ford did not like it, as he always wanted all the attention. I think that put a rift if the relationship with old Henry. Charlie's book, My Forty Years with Ford is a very good read. It is out of print in book form, but available as an e-book. I had read a copy from the library years ago. I wanted to re-read and found the e-book, which I got from Barnes & Noble.

You're right. Charlie knew better, but took too much media attention from the Willow Run plant. He knew very well the risk he was taking, and he lost.

Only because I had to look him up also. A pivotal employee from the early 1900's thru to the thirties, I think.

Charlie was a Danish migrant served his time as a pattern maker before working for Ford ,rose through the ranks to head of production, he pioneered the casting techniques for the Flathead ,where new methods had to be devised.Ted

Found him on Wiki...if what was written is true, seemed he really was "the man" at Ford.

Ford had a number of people who helped him succeed. James Couzens, who was the financial whiz, was another key player. Sorenson's skill was to listen to Ford's ideas and turn them into reality. Henry Ford could not read engineering drawings. He was the visionary who needed others to realize his vision. A modern equivalent might be Steve Jobs.

Plus, Sorensen really liked Edsel they got along swell. It broke his heart to see Henry being mean to Edsel. And, Sorensen never liked or trusted Harry Bennett it took Henry II to fire that guy after his dad died........ bad times at Ford you have to wonder just how they made it. Could have been a lot better company but I guess it all worked out.

Sorensen was very tall, and the guy in the hat & coat seems shorter than the workers across from him. Just sayin...

The picture you show has LIFE in caption on it. I am positive I have read in one of my Ford books that LIFE magazine did a feature story on Sorenson and Clara Ford was very upset about it. The story was on his development of the solid (one piece)casting of the V8 engine.Clara wanted him fired for taking away Henry's thunder.

A great read for us Ford buffs is "Wheels for the World" "Henry Ford, The man and his company," a Century of progress" by Douglas Brinkley. Covers all the key people like Charlie Sorenson.

Brendan, Sorenson’s book is excellent, but as a participant as opposed to being an observer, you’ll find his perspective to be slanted, as to be expected.
