39 Deluxe ground?

Is the ground from the battery a strap or cable and what should it be grounded to? Thanks in advance!

My 39 is a strap grounded from battery to firewall

You should put another cable from the ground on the firewall to the engine. G.M.

Firewall to a heater bolt!

To enhance engine starting, I choose to use a cable to ground to the starter motor body, that also being the engine block, and from the engine block to both the firewall and frame. In addition, I run one #8 ground wire to the areas where lights are located at front and rear of the car. Obviously none of this is "stock" but it improves and maintains the performance of the electrical system.

Not stock, but on my 38 6v flathead I went overkill on grounds. I made my own cables, one to normal position on firewall and one to bellbousing near starter. I may even have a braided strap from firewall to bolt on intake. Like I said, overkill, but no problems with poor ground. I also re-wired my car and ran a ground to all lights. Don't like to depend on body for ground.

never use an exhaust manifold bolt for a ground, the heat will cause to much resistance and wont provide a good ground
