Opinions needed on the choice between a rebuilt box or a EZ steer F1 type box.

My friend rebuilt his original box and his 29 Tudor steers great now. The steering wheel should only be turned when the car is moving, and this even applies to modern cars with power steering. Even though power steering takes away the feel, the steering parts all feel the added pressure of turning the wheels without the car moving.

This makes me feel better. I rebuilt a 7 tooth box for my 29 (Even though I probably should have done the 2 tooth, the 7 tooth seemed much simpler for a novice like myself). Although with the front wheels in the air, the steering feels smooth and buttery, on the ground it trying to turn the wheel at a stop felt like trying to push the car up a hill.

It's nice to know i'm not just weak spirited!

Hopefully after I replace the bushings (is that what they're called on these cars?) in the tie rod and drag link, it will drive like its on rails. (well, 1929 rails.)

I have both types installed in my Model A's. The 2 Tooth Box ( rebuilt) with a short pitman arm and teflon ball seats (balls new) steers just about as easy as the F100. The difference is the F100 seems to return to "straight ahead" when turning corners better than the 2 Tooth. Would I do the F100 again? No. I would rebuild the Model A steering box, short pitman arm, teflon ball seats with new balls.

If you were to do a search here on the EZ Steer, you would not even consider it. Too many horror stories (including mine) out there. Neat idea, just didn't work (for me anyway).

Most guys here will tell you to rebuild your original box. After my bout with John Kovar and his EZ box, I opted to go with the F100 conversion from www.modelaonly.net and am very happy with it.

After posting the request, I did a search on the hot rod Hamb and had all my answers. Amazing how a Co. Can be so bad and still be in business.
I'm now between rebuilding mine or mikes.
