Maybe an unusual question but......................

Do the splash pans mount under the frame or on top?

If you're NOT into originality, I just noticed that Snyders' has a mounting kit, with slide in clips, with built in nuts, that makes it a "ONE MAN" job installing them!
I have a set of pans to install on Vermin & the Dorg sez he cain't help me, as he has NO THUMBS! He sez he cain't HITCH HIKE, either!

If you don't care about looking original, drill the frame holes a little bigger, thread them and install your pans with bolts and lock washers from the bottom.

That's what I'll do, Glenn, I'll use square nuts & lockwashers to make it look right. I have some 1" long oval plates to mount them to the pan bolts, I'll put a plate against the pan, then an oval of belting, then the pan & another metal oval. "Maybe" that will prevent the pan from cracking?? I, personally, feel that the pans are the finishing touch to an engine room:D These are BLACK powder coated & have never been used:) Vermin is BLUE, with BLACK fenders, If I had LOTS of DOUGH, I'd do him in ALL BLACK, even the WHEELS & do original striping in RED & a 1/8" RED stripe on the outer wheel rims. This summer, I'll run sans the hood sides, with LEATHER hood straps, made from Chief's WIDE, "COWBOY" belts, when he weighed 220 LBS!!!--A small tribute to my "OLD MAN" Gotta' figure out a tribute to my Son, Gregg, to add to the car. ANY IDEAS, help me.

Got them all mounted from the bottom up. Once we got under there it was clear to see just how the originals fit in place. Looks good and I can see just how they assist with cooling!

I didn't even drill the holes bigger. I just used a tap for the same size bolts that secure the oil pan. Only have to have one size bolts while under there!

I ran for many years without splash pans, but I added repro splash pans about 6 years ago. I don't know if it makes any difference in cooling, but the car sure does look better. It's one of the signs I look for to see how much attention was paid to detail in completing a car--this includes my own attention to detail.

While adding pans is not the first thing on my list for completing a car, especially when time/energy/money must be budgeted, it certainly is a finishing touch.

A tip:

Make yourself some brackets (need four) with a step in them. Use them with slightly longer bolts at the four positions that bolt to the oil pan. This will reinforce the tabs and prevent them from cracking and breaking loose.

When they break loose you will know it, as there will be a terrific noise from underneath every time you de-accelerate.

In addition to cooling they also help reduce rain/water spray up into the engine compartment. Visualize a right turn without them and the tire is kicking up water, spray, moisture up into the engine compartment towards the carburetor.

I've heard that WITH the pans, the air flow over the exhaust manifold is INCREASED & causes a GREATER air flow out of the hood louvers??

I just mounted up a set to my '30 Fordor-not much of a job with the front fenders off, and all original metal-the holes all lines up with only a minimum of struggle.
