Secret to acorn nuts?

Been trying to put chrome acorns on my head bolts, and I'm having a heck of a time. They are all going on difficult, no foil needed, but some are splitting, and there's one bolt in particular that I've destroyed two acorn nuts on.
I'm using a piece of UHMV as to not dent the nuts. Is there any easy way to do this?

are you sure you have the correct size acorn nuts they should be 11/16 but they come in 5/8 9/16 as well. try them on a 5/8 bolt and see

Re: Secret to acorn nuts?

My head bolts are new 11/16" from Van Pelts. Nuts must be same cause I tried them on a 5/8" bolt, way too loose.
Chrome acorn Nuts are from Speedway.

Re: Secret to acorn nuts?

Interested to see your solution, because the ones that I got from Speedway are too tight to fit without the use of semi-destructive install methods.

The little Chinese guy that made them forgot we don't use the metric system.

I destroyed a Speedway set. I bought a set from another supplier and they were perfect. I hold them on with a dab of silicone.

Re: Secret to acorn nuts?

i just use a bit of electrical tape to cover the stud and overlap a little bit and they snug right up and stay on and are easy to pop off.

Re: Secret to acorn nuts?

I'm not having a problem with them falling off, but going on the first place.
Bassman, do you remember where you got them from?

Re: Secret to acorn nuts?

PITA, but I took a dremel tool and carved them out a bit( still tough going on),
Gee I only have 24 more to go :(

I would like a source for some proper fitting ones though, then I can take all these to the firing range and have fun with my .22!

Re: Secret to acorn nuts?

I just gave them a tweak from one side too the other with a set of "nut F**Kers" (multi grips) on the open end. This hardly marks them. Now they're tight enough to stay on but easy enough to pull off if you have to.

I didn't like mine, gave away a whole bag. I prefer the stock original look on the whole car.....36 Fordoor.

Ralph, I had a first set that went on just nice and snug. Don't remember where I bought them. I just installed a second set on another engine that slide on and off easily. I had to put a dab of silicone on them to hold them in place. This is where I got them, if this helps you. Just my 2 cents.

Re: Secret to acorn nuts?

The ones that came with my ARP studs work perfectly and are deep enough they don't bottom out. These are not caps but actual acorn nuts.

Speedway nut covers are plastic and do not work very well. Buy a set of chrome steel nut covers from Bob Drake and you will be happy.

Re: Secret to acorn nuts?

Update in the acorns. My Speedway ones were metal, but fit was terrible.
Took ZZLegend and flatheadmurre's advice and ordered from Offyonline.
Worked great! Tiny bit of silicone, and I did one side in about five minutes!
Now I wish I had ordered his intake set.
