Cross bar bolts........... Are the cross bar bolts also suppose to take the luggage rack supports? I tried but I might not have done something right and it has been playing on my mind that the luggage rack when down should be closer to the body. The photo is deceiving because the bracketets have an opening to take bolts closer together on one side.
This came from Mac's and it shows the crossbar bolts which tell me something is not right either with the brackets I have of operator headspace. http://www.macsautoparts.com/assets/...cs/A18575B.pdf http://i59.tinypic.com/qozwxy.jpg |
Re: Cross bar bolts........... Where is your spare? Most A's have them on the rear as you know. The extension arms allow the rear spare to stay against the car and the trunk beyond that. If you have the spare on the front the extension arms are not needed.

Mike, I don't have a spare mounted there and there is no extensions brackets. It is how it's shown in Mac's diagram, lower left but the brackets are bolted to two fwd holes and not with the two back cross bar bolts. I wonder if I have the wrong brackets of just mix-matched holes. I believe my box sits farther out than it's suppose to when not mounted in front of a spare even though I have no extensions arms. I think I'll call Mac's since it's his diagram showing the brackets to be bolted with the crossbar bolts. Thanks......... |
Re: Cross bar bolts........... You see the "silver" bar in your picture? On my car that rests about 1/2 inch from my spares hub cap.

Re: Cross bar bolts........... Mike, I took the box off and the rack and took this photo of all four holes. If you look at Mac's installation diagram, the arrow points to the two back holes that also hold the crossbar on.

Re: Cross bar bolts........... Got the brackets into the FWD holes and the box now is 3.5 inches from an open rumble instead of eight inches. The rack was installed by the previous owner. Much better, doesn't stick out like a sore thumb now. I must have the only Coupe with a luggage box without a spare tire.
