Float a Motor Front Motor Mount I have a front float a motor mount that I purchased some time ago and I no longer have the installation instructions.
My question is how do I locate the motor mount to drill the holes in the cross member? Thanks for any help you can give me. Bob |
Re: Float a Motor Front Motor Mount Bolt on your mount with rubber donut and bolt , rest motor on
Crossmember remove bolts and drill where bolts were removed , through Crossmember, 5/8 drill. Would recommend to enlarge further to not ,let bolt Rest against crossmember. See bill Williamson advice on fam on search, on enlarging drill size to 1 inch. Fred |

Re: Float a Motor Front Motor Mount Bill and Fred
Thanks for your responses. I am still not sure I understand what you are saying. Do I bolt the mount to the engine first then lower it to the cross member to establish the hole location. I would appreciate any clarification you can provide. Thanks again for your help Bob |
Re: Float a Motor Front Motor Mount Yes, bolt the mount to the engine, being careful to not lift the engine any further than necessary to avoid damaging the bellhousing. Then set it down in order to establish the hole positions. Enlarging the hole size might be necessary, depending on your accuracy in drilling.

Set the upper donuts in place & lower the mount down on them. Make sure your crank bearing is aligned to the crank nut & mark the hole location. I then drilled the two 3/8" holes. Here's the SECRET--Jack the engine a bit & take out the donuts, THEN, from the bottom, I used a Harbor Freight Uni-Bit & enlarged the holes to 1", so the donuts would "squish" into the holes & the long bolts wouldn't touch the crossmember & ROAR worse than original mounts! The manufacturer needs to revise their installation instructions. I had to install 2 large flat washers on top of the upper donuts, to align the crank bearing to the crank nut. With Float-A-Motors, front & rear & a flexible tail pipe hanger, Minerva was SO DAMN SMOOTH, you wouldn't believe it!! @ 65MPH, she just went HMMMMMM:D:D:D:D:D IF I wuzn't SO TIRED,:( I'd put them in Vermin. Re: Float a Motor Front Motor Mount Thanks for all the help. I will let you know how I make out. At the moment I am replacing the transmission so I removed the engine.
